Pep Guardiola will not attempt to lure Lionel Messi to Manchester City, despite the uncertainty over the star’s future at Barcelona.
Messi played under Guardiola at Nou Camp but has yet to commit to the club beyond this season.
But despite the Argentine maestro’s availability in the summer, Guardiola will not pursue an offer.
According to Diario Gol, Guardiola does not want to upset Barcelona fans by trying to prise their star man from Spain.
He fears that would ruin his chances of returning to the club in the future.
The report also suggests that the relationship between the pair is actually cold, and that they have spoken rarely since they parted company in 2012.
Messi was left on the bench on Wednesday night as his side secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Barcelona drew 0-0 with Juventus in Turin.
